We’re excited to share their story and celebrate the role the Avoca Public Library plays in what makes Avoca special.
What is Avoca Public Library?
The Avoca Public Library is so much more than books. While they offer traditional library services like physical books and online reading resources, they also serve as a true community hub. From story times and book clubs to educational workshops, the library creates experiences for every age.
They even check out more than books. Patrons can borrow games, puzzles, yard games, a telescope, and more. It’s a place designed for curiosity, connection, and community learning.
Why They Do What They Do
When asked what motivates Library Director Sabrina Lewis each day, the answer was simple and heartfelt: seeing people light up.
“I do love when people get excited about the library as much as we do. Whether it’s finally getting a book they’ve been waiting for or helping someone apply for a job or print tax forms, those small things feel huge to them.”
That passion for service is at the core of everything they do, and it’s easy to feel when you walk through the doors.
What More People Should Know
Many people still assume the library is only for readers. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
The Avoca Public Library offers a wide range of services and resources for everyone, including people who may not consider themselves readers. It is truly a space for all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, and the staff works hard to make sure everyone feels welcome.
Local Matters
Located right on Elm Street, the library naturally partners with Avoca Main Street and participates in community activities like the farmers market right outside their doors. Staying connected with local businesses and organizations helps strengthen the entire community.
Through their partnership with Avoca Main Street, the library uses cross-promotion to reach more neighbors, share resources, and build lasting local relationships.
